FAQ

Why are the pajamas being recalled?

Under federal standard for the flammability of children’s sleepwear, all children's sleepwear garments sold in sizes larger than nine months must be either flame resistant or tight-fitting.  The design of our pajamas in sizes 12M+ do not meet flammability standards; specifically they do not fit snug enough to the body and could pose a risk of burn injuries in the event of a fire. This is a standard specifically for pajamas in sizes 12M+, and does not affect our infant pajamas or any other Paper Cape items. Here at Paper Cape, we take matters of consumer safety very seriously. We want to assure you that no injuries have been reported, and this action is the result of a regular product review.

Have any incidents been reported?

No safety incidents have been reported.

Which styles does this apply to?

This applies to our classic long sleeve pajama sets (sizes 2T - 12Y) and classic footless pajama sleepers (sizes 12m, 18M) in all colorways.  It does not apply to our infant footies in sizes 3M, 6M and 9M or any other Paper Cape items.

Will I get a refund?

Yes, we will offer refunds in store credit for the original purchase price plus 10% once we receive documentation from you (i.e., photos or video) showing the destroyed garment.  You can send refund requests and documentation to recall@papercape.com.

How do I destroy the garment?

You can destroy the garment by cutting the classic pajama set or the footless pajama sleeper in half. Once the garment is destroyed, you can send a photo of it to recall@PaperCape.com to receive your store credit.

Is there something about the PJ fabric that makes it more flammable than other PJs or clothes?

No.  Cotton PJs are required to be snug fitting because they are more likely to ignite if there is air between a child's skin and the fabric.  The exceptions to this rule are certain synthetics and synthetic blends (ex. polyester) that are more naturally flame retardant and/or fabrics that have been treated with flame retardant chemicals.  If you've found cotton PJs that are not snug fitting, they may be from outside of the US, be a cotton blend as described above, or be chemically treated with flame retardants.

What if the pajamas are worn/washed?

That’s okay! We will still issue a refund if you send us proof of destruction.

Will you fix the pajamas and re-release them?

We're working on it.  We'll release a compliant version of our pajama sets in early March.  We will never use synthetics or flame retardant chemicals so they will be very slightly snugger fitting.  They will be in the same customer favorite pima cotton and some of your favorite prints (yes, including trucks :)).  We can't wait to show you.
